Very quiet and peaceful. Nice, close location to local parks. Never got an email the day of, or before, to tell us what cabin number we would be staying in. Waited until we got to the cabins to figure it out but that was complicated by lack of cell service. Finally was able to call and get that figured out then everything was excellent.

Nice, compact cabin. Very clean and homey. Felt good to walk in the door and feel at "home."

This place was even better then then I expected! Great location, great host, plenty of room for us 3 and our dog. It was my first time to the area and it was beautiful.

We really enjoyed our stay! The listing was very accurate, cabin was clean and we had great communication with hosts. It’s located just outside of Custer which was nice nice not being right in town but still very close. Would definitely recommend staying here and will stay again!

This place was amazing. It was so cozy the communication between us was spot on. Would definitely stay there again and encourage others to do so as well!

My family and I (plus 2 of our furry family members) stayed in cabin #2 for 3 nights. The hosts were great with communication before and during our stay making sure we had what we needed. Even our pups were comfortable enough to make themselves feel at home (we have rescues and that can create a challenge for them to be in strange places). The views of the STARS AT NIGHT were incredible. The cabin was clean and inviting. We had everything we needed. Our ONE AND ONLY small complaint: the beds were a bit hard. We are a family that prefers softer mattresses, and these were very firm.
Oh...and we had to laugh at a nearby rooster greeting us with his wakeup call.
We would definitely stay here again.

We loved our stay at Elk Haven! The cabin was very conveniently located to several attractions. Custer State Park is incredible! Kris and Beth were accessible via text with a quick response for anything we needed. We plan to visit Custer again in the future and will definitely be staying at Elk Haven when we do!

Great Location!
We enjoyed our stay at this little cabin. The cabin is in a quiet area conveniently located to Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park, and Wind Cave National Park. The cabin was comfortable, and the hosts were helpful with any questions we had.

Wonderful accommodations
Very nice cabin, extremely clean. Has a small kitchen, a dining room table, a spacious bathroom that was fully stocked. No air conditioning, but not needed at night and there are plenty of fans available to use. I will book with this company and at the Elk Haven Cabins again. We'll worth the money. Check-in was extremely easy. Also easy to communicate with the hosts.

Perfect getaway
The owners, Beth and Kris, were friendly and very helpful. We needed a couple of light blankets and they brought them same day. Also were available to take a call in the evening when we had a question about the lock. The cabin was clean and well-stocked and mattresses were very comfortable. The cabins are in a beautiful location, a very short drive to Custer. We would definitely stay there again.

Relaxing!
What a great find in Custer. We loved staying at Elk Haven. Very nice owners who were attentive and helpful. Our cabin was clean and spacious, had great furnishings, stocked with all the basics and then some, wonderful porch views, great wifi and tv, peaceful, and private. The gravel road is just fine. Will certainly consider returning.

Get away to the Black Hills of S. Dakota
We enjoyed our stay at this cute cabin. Everything was just as it appeared in the description. The cabin was clean and the beds were comfortable! It was a nice place to come back to after a long day of visiting the sites.

Great lil cabin in the woods.
This cabin was clean and cozy. We loved comming home after a long day exploring. Although the cabin seems small it worked well for our family and we were all very comfortable. I recomend this cabin.

Great place away from town
We had a great trip to S. Dakota. Beth was very prompt in her replies to our questions. The cabin was clean, with plenty of clean towels. The cabin is down a gravel road, outside of town. It was nice and quiet after visiting all of the different sites in town and the surrounding area, with all of the MANY people. We enjoyed our stay!

good location
If you are visiting Custer and surrounding areas, this is a good location. We had been warned that the road is rough leading to it which is true. Also knew there was no air conditioning which is common in this area with cool nights. Nothing fancy, but worked for our purpose of hiking and being out most of day.

Two days in Custer
The cabin was perfect for the five of us. Had to schedule showers since there is only one bath but we worked it out. The cabin is in a cluster of cabins but all the guests were quiet and respectful. Didn't even know they were there. The cabin was centrally located for everything we wanted to do so it was the perfect location. Even had deer to greet us every morning. Highly recommended.

Black Hills experience
Property is close to many of the beautiful sites the Black Hills has to offer. Our friends were thrilled with the accommodations. If the road leading to the property was better it would have been perfect!

Early September Black Hills Vacation
Beth and her spouse are wonderful hosts. The cabin is outfitted with everything you would need for an early autumn vacation (plus an unexpected late summer winter storm). The location is perfect for quick access to Custer State Park or trail heads in the Black Hills National Forest (our longest drive to a trail head was only 35 minutes). It is also near main attractions; Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Reptile Gardens, Bear Country and the Wildlife Nature Loop in Custer State Park. Custer's main retail and commercial hub is located about 3 miles from the cabin - it provides a number of restaurants, small shops, small cafes, a natural foods grocery store and a larger grocery store. The cabin allows dogs, which was wonderful. However, if you plan to walk the dirt road leading into town, please be cautious as there are at least 4 other properties along the route with unleashed dogs who are not afraid to approach the public road or pedestrians. Overall, we had a great time and will definitely reserve this property again in the future!

Great cabin that feels private, yet close to Custer!
This was the first time we had been to the area and did not want a hotel or in the city.
The description was accurate and the setting very pretty. I liked that there were a lot of hooks to hand items, big fans when it got hot( no air conditioning) and a nice deck to sit on in the eves. I will have to say, the one thing is that the master bed is not very comfortable. Everything else was great and the owners wonderful! Thx!

Great stay in a great location (June 17-20, 2020)
Our family of 4 had a great stay In our cabin. The cabin met all of our needs. The location was perfect and within a reasonable distance for everything we wanted to do (the Crazy Horse Memorial, Mount Rushmore, and Bear Country USA). The owners were easy to reach for questions and were very friendly and easy to communicate with. The only complaint we might have is the beds could be a little more comfortable (but that did not take away from our overall experience). Would recommend based on location and friendliness of the owners. Thank you for a great stay!!!

Excellent location! Great cabin!
We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin is close to Custer. The cabin is a peaceful retreat. We had a lot of fun watching the deer across the road as well as other wildlife around the area. We met Kris/owner when he was there cleaning another cabin. He was very nice and helpful with suggestions of things to do in the area.

Family vacation
Location, accommodations, and a peaceful place to enjoy our family vacation. Great for our family of 5!

Very nice cabin in a quiet wooded area.
The cabin is very nice and relatively clean, except for the furniture (needs to be cleaned up) and some dusting. The kitchen had everything we needed except a cutting board. The front window (deck window) has a hole in the screen which led to an unexpected visitor in the cabin...a black and white cat. We had to keep the window closed. The beds aren't too bad, just a little on the hard side. We had a very nice stay.
