About this house rental
Masons Court is a stunning example of a medieval Wealden Hall and is located right in the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon, a lively and historic market town. Built in 1482 the house is recognised as the oldest house in Stratford-upon-Avon and many of its original features remain including two 16th century wall paintings. Visitors will find themselves within a few minutes walk of Shakespeare's birth place, Royal Shakespeare theatre, River Avon and a wide range of restaurants and bars.
The space
3 Masons Court sleep up to 6 people in 3 bedrooms.
The house been recently refurbished with a modern, well equipped kitchen, two bathrooms and contemporary decor. This property is truly one of a kind, a comfortable and magical place to stay when visiting the area.
The property has a flagstoned, 16th century oak panelled dining room, an Inglenook fireplace with wood-burner in the spacious living area and original oak beams throughout.
There are two bathrooms at the property, one houses a freestanding copper 'Hurlingham' bathtub, the other a large metro tiled walk in shower.
Bedroom one, to the front of the property and part of the original 15th century Wealden Hall, is a small and comfortable oak beamed room with a double bed.
The master bedroom has a 16th century fire place and raised wooden platform area, a 16th century wooden panelled wall divides it from bedroom three, there is a lockable door in the wooden panelling which guests with smaller children may choose to leave open. Bedroom three is a small and cosy room, having two windows one of which is an original mullion window, this room can also be accessed by its own private doorway from the landing area. Guests should note that these two rooms are totally independent from each other, however, they are divided by the16th century wooden wall which loud snoring may travel though ! .
To the rear of 3 Masons Court there is an enclosed, walled courtyard garden with mature shrubs, a 200 year old Mulberry bush sits at the centre of the garden.
Guest access
3 Masons Court is an entire 3 bedroom private home with private access forming a part of the larger Wealden hall that is Masons Court. The hall has over time been divided into 4 separate homes. The historic courtyard garden is a shared space, however all four properties have their own designated garden area. The private garden area belonging to 3 Masons Court is directly outside the rear door, it has mature trees and shrubs plus an area to dine or relax.
Interaction with guests
I live 30 minutes drive from Stratford upon Avon, however there is also local contact 5 minutes away who can usually help immediately. Between 8am and 10 pm I can be contacted on my mobile for any questions or issues you might have. In the unlikely case of an emergency I am available on my mobile number 24 hours a day.
Other things to note
Masons Court is a warm and cosy medieval property which has many quirky features including low doors, uneven floors and wattle and daub walls.
Guests with mobility issues may need to be fully aware of the character of the property.
We respect our neighbours and would request that as sound can travel in medieval houses that noise is kept to a minimum after 11pm.
There is a strict no smoking policy at the property and guests should be aware that due to the timber framed nature of the property candles are not to be used, good quality battery candles will be available for guests to use.

A fantastic property, even better than the photos! Great location and walking distance to all the sites we wanted to visit in the town. We fell in love with Stratford Upon Avon and its history and the house completed this. Wonderful hosts who were very responsive and went out of their way to help us find accommodation as we had decided to stay an extra night but unfortunately the house was booked for the additional night. We highly recommend.

The property was complete with all modern appliances even though a period cottage.Great heating.Easy to walk to shops and attractions of Stratford.
Bath was quite a climb for less athletic members to try but a great experience. Some of lower beams could do with having warning toggles hanging down to alert you.

Staying in this beautiful historical home was a dream come true! I only wish we could have stayed longer! The house is gorgeous, the garden is wonderful (who knew we would be able to enjoy it in early April?). The way Carl & Rachel updated this house to honor it's history but also add elements of modern fixtures elevated it beyond any place I have ever stayed! Please read the manual - it has everything in it you might want to know and even more! The location is incredible. You can walk everywhere and anywhere! The suggestions in the manual for restaurants, etc were very appreciated and spot-on! I absolutely plan to come back again! Thank you so much for hosting us!

Where do I even start? Upon entry (which was clearly explained and easy to find), we opened the 15th century garden door with an old fashion key. There we found a gorgeous, newly remodeled kitchen with every amenity. There was also a bottle of wine and a box of gourmet cookies waiting for us. Entering the dining area, I felt like I had stepped into the Weasley's house meets Game of Thrones. Literally the place of dreams. It was like a movie set. Then into the family room with a WORKING wood stove. The downstairs bathroom has a bronze soaking tub and toilet. Up the stairs, you find crooked beams and curving walls that have been reinforced yet plastered into the home to reflect its history. The bed were so comfortable and there wasn't a single touch overlooked from the decor to the plush towels. Upstairs there is a modern shower and toilet. Everything about this place is magical. My entire family was sad to go but excited to share the experience. Absolutely a core memory stored....thank you to the incredible hosts for sharing this bit of history with the world.

Beautiful house in Central Stratford
My family and I had a lovely time staying in this gorgeous property. It was very well furnished and equipped, and the owner had even left us a bottle of wine. It's perfectly located - very central in Stratford in striking distance of the RSC and lovely restaurants, but not in a noisy area. I would wholeheartedly recommend this property.

Beautiful house in a great location
This was the perfect house for our family get-together of 6 adults with excellent restaurants, the town and river just a few mins walk. It had a lovely small garden with a hammock, table and chairs which in the spring/summer would be ideal for eating in. The house is quirky, creative and interesting and very comfortable for relaxing in. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Amazing stay for a Shakespearean birthday
There is no better place to stay when visiting Stratford, tastefully decorated original features and all round stunning cottage, with fun and quirks everywhere you look.
Nothing could be improved, just wish we stayed longer, in the process of booking next year already. Location location location with easy access to tourist areas, restaurants and shops alike. Perfection is the only suitable word! Thank you so much and can’t wait to visit again soon

Incredibly beautiful home!
Beautiful property, unfortunately we had torrential rain so couldn’t do any real sightseeing, but it meant we spent more time in this fantastic home. Clean and well equipped. Something very special about the property and would definitely return.

Fabulous base for exploring Stratford
A fantastic base for a theatre and foodie weekend in Stratford for our family of 3. It was a real treat to stay in such an old house, beautifully furnished and equipped. Great location - we could walk everywhere. Inbetween Parkrun, a theatre matinee and a fancy dinner at Salt (very welcoming, amazing food), we took advantage of the beautiful copper bath and played board games. Hope we’ll be back to get more use out of the hammock!

3 wonderful days in Stratford Upon Avon
House was amazing with uneven floors and walls that go along with a 500+ years house. Interiors though were cozy and very comfortable with the kitchen and baths being very modern. Lovely garden in back for a drink and chat with friends. Walking distance to everything in town and a great place to stay to visit the Cotswolds or other areas. Overall, perfect!
