Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Town: The village of Killin, located in the Breadalbane area of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, sits across the stunning Falls of Dochart and has been inhabited since ancient times. Rock and stone circle cup markings reveal the presence of a prehistoric group in this area. In the 8th century, Christianity was introduced to Breadalbane by St Fillan, whose mill bears his name and St Fillan's Day is celebrated on the third Tuesday of every January. There are two well-known clans in the area: Clan Campbell and Clan MacNab. To the north of the village is Finlarig Castle, a Campbell stronghold, and near the bridge over the falls is the ancient MacNabs burial ground of Inchbuie. Killin is now a popular tourist destination in part because of the numerous times the falls have been featured in films and television shows. The village now has a wide range of shops, bars, and restaurants, and the nearby Loch Tay is a great place to go water skiing or sailing. Ben Lawers, the highest of the surrounding Bens, can be found to the north, while Ben More and Stobinian can be found to the west.
