This property provided an adequate & affordable option for our visit to D.C. The location was about a 10 minute walk to the Colombia Heights Metro station, and several shopping options. The neighborhood seemed fairly safe, but the metro station area got a little sketchy at night. We stayed in the upstairs apartment. On the surface, most areas appeared fairly clean, but honestly it could use a good deep clean & some attention to detail. Dust on the decorative panels of the interior doors, sheets that would not stay on one of the beds, plastic cover on the mattress that was very noisy with any movement on the bed, curtains that do not cover the entire window for additional light blocking, dishes that were in need of washing before using, etc.. Just had an overall feeling of being a little unkempt. The apartment really has a lot of potential, and I hope the owners invest some money & time into making it the true gem it could be.

A very convenient location. 4-5 minute walk to the subway, grocery store and restaurants. 2 Queen beds in the large central room. 1 small bed in a side room. The small side room almost works as a separate bedroom, except you have to go through the side room to get to the bathroom. 2 of the 4 burners on the range don't work. 2 working burners is enough, just check which ones they are before you start trying to cook.

This is a great spot in an unbeatable location in Columbia Heights. Two big beds and a twin bed comfortably fit five people. The couch is surprisingly comfy. The full kitchen was outfitted with a kettle and coffeemaker, and the whole place was clean and cozy. The neighborhood is lovely, feels very safe, and is walking distance to many coffee shops and good restaurants. Lois was super helpful and allowed us to check out late so that we didn't have to lug our bags around before our flight! Great communication.

It was a short 30 min Metro trip after boarding the metro at the DCA airport to get to the nearest metro stop to the apartment. Afterwards, it was only a short 10 min walk which is super convenient, because you can use the Metro to get within a short walking distance of many major DC tourist attractions. I recommend using Capital Bikeshare to get to other attractions like West Potomac Park that are a little more out of the way.
There are a couple mild complaints I had about housekeeping - there were wet towels in their washing machine they hadn't taken care of and coffee still in the coffee maker upon arrival. All in all, it was a clean stay and didn't have the "dirty clean" feeling of a hotel room.

During the middle of the night, water began streaming from ceiling onto the bed. Property manager eventually responded. Bedding (which was soaked through) was changed. Ceiling water damage was not.
Front door (to street) is old & difficult to unlock & lock. Also didn’t seem very tight or secure.
Otherwise, apartment & building were very clean & attractive.

The management company never sent me the check in door access code until I called them the first night of my stay. They also did not respond to my question a week prior about parking.

Nice location and clean apartment. However the only bathroom was through 2nd bedroom so privacy may be an issue. We made it work, though. Also, when exiting front door it was hard to get door locked. Manager said he would fix the strike plate for deadbolt so that is probably not an issue. Location and cleanliness outweighed all for us. Recommended with this input.

We enjoyed our trip! We had a little issue with the AC unit, but the owners were quick to respond and very helpful! It was clean and comfortable. My only complaint (which the owners have no control over) is the upstairs people are super noisy and you hear everything.

While the location and unit were what we needed for our stay, we arrived and the unit had not been cleaned. Towels were laying out, sheets still undone, and no trash was taken out. We engaged the management company to get a cleaner there ASAP to prepare the unit as it was supposed to be, and their first answer was that we could cancel with 100% of our refund. We were already there -- cancelling was not an option. Ultimately it took about 2 hours to get the unit cleaned.
The management company agreed to refund us the cleaning fee for our trouble, and a month later, that has still not happened. I have followed up through VRBO and off line to recoup that commitment,(which they made in writing), and they have ignored it.
You can't beat the location, but be weary of a manager who was not truthful with us and has not resolved this issue. I do not recommend.

It appears that this home was once a private residence that has been converted into several apartments for rent through VRBO. We rented this one because it had washer/dryer. However, it did not dry at all. We had to spent our 1st morning at a laundromat instead of enjoying our vacation. Also, according to posted sign, the garbage disposal was out of order. Despite that, there was stuffed food in to the sink. The sink wouldn’t drain. As the space is in Wash DC & it is July, it is hot/humid. We were not in a position to adjust the thermostat as it was under locked & key & set to 76 degrees. Then, there was the shower. While the shower was perfectly acceptable, the sign on the wall told us that the water would run cold in 5 minutes. Unwilling to test it out, my family of 5 took micro showers to ensure we got some warm water. Thankfully, the apartment was SO HOT, that cool showers were welcomed. We choose this apartment because it was advertised to be close to the Mall. Well, if you mean the nearby small shopping mall, that is just around the corner. However, if you didn’t go to DC for shopping at Target, but instead went to see the National Mall, then you are close only if you think of a 5k race as close. Finally, there was the German family that somehow had the code to our apartment and came in, uninvited. While shopping for groceries at the "mall," we left the teen-aged kids in the apartment. Panicked, they called to tell us that another family used a code to open the locked door & entered the room insisting they were the rightful tenets. While it is not the property owners fault that someone made a mistake, I question how they gained access to our apartment. We contacted the management via text (their means of communication). Several hours later, they responded. I told tell them of the other issues (the sink & dryer). They never responded. This was a nice enough area that is returning to better days. Many home were renovated, but many were run down. We never felt unsafe walking to Metro, or laundromat. However, it was missing some of the key ingredients we thought we were getting: close proximity to the National Mall, a washer/dryer that dries, a fully functioning sink, un-timed showers, control of a thermostat, and the security of knowing that while we would be the only folks in the apartment durning out stay.

Great Location...
This unit is spacious and was right where we wanted to be, just 2 blocks from the Columbia Heights metro. The control for the A/C was not in the unit so the unit was very cold during out stay. Our only frustration was that we were not able to make the temperature what we found comfortable. Besides that, the place worked out great and the managers are very responsive and helpful.

Nice location, could have been cleaner.
When we arrived, the apartment was about 85 degrees, but fortunately didn't take too long to cool off. It is small, but we knew that when we booked it. I had talked to Lois, the owner, prior to our stay and told her to make sure we had top sheets for the beds, because I noticed on other reviews that this was a common complaint, She said she'd take of it. We didn't have top sheets and the apartment could've used a good cleaning - it was dusty, the oven wasn't clean and there was melted plastic on the one one of the burners. But the location is great! Very close to restaurants, a grocery store and some of the parks - all within walking distance. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Good apartment for families!
This apartment worked out really well for us! We had the benefit of 2 queen beds in the same room (for families with young children who don't want to sleep in a different room), plus a small kitchen, and an extra room for my aunt who came with us. You do have to walk through the small bedroom (which also has the washer/dryer) to get to the bathroom, as other guests noted. Also, as per other reviews, we had problems with the washer/dryer taking forever (and we wished there had been better instructions), problems finding the keys to adjust the thermostat (which is in the hall), and some minor problems getting our questions answered from the person who helps with the apartment (it would have been nice to have received the wifi info over email, since the book with that info had been removed and placed on the first floor in the hallway - which we didn't discover until day 2). Other than those minor issues, the kitchen worked out great for a breakfast of eggs and/or cereal each day before we left, the proximity to a grocery store was a big plus (and cute restaurants right near by that we are sad we didn't get to visit). The neighborhood felt very safe - lots of people walking around. We did rent a car, which worked out well for us, though parking late at night was sometimes a challenge since you have to find a spot. (The permit, which you must arrange with the property manager and pay $20 for, only allows you to park in the neighborhood... there is no guaranteed spot.) It took us 20 min. to drive to the mall - and parking there was around $20 for the day. It gave us extra flexibility and worked out well for us since we were a group of 5. I would recommend this apartment, and I would stay there again. You can also talk to Lois about paying through paypal to avoid vrbo's new annoying fees - which I really appreciated.

What a great location!
I stayed there for my 40th birthday celebration with my mom, sister, and best friend. We found the apartment itself to be sweet and quaint. It was perfect for the 4 of us. I absolutely loved the location. It was in walking distance of several stores such as Target which was perfect. We decided not to rent a car and I am so glad we did. It wasn't necessary. We caught uber to any place we couldn't drive and because of the location of the apartment it never cost us more than $10 to get to any DC spot. The next time we go to DC we all agree we want to stay here again. On our final day, the people staying below us had their car broken into because she left her cell phone it. The area felt very safe to us however. I would just caution anyone that stays there to take the necessary precautions and don't leave valuables in your car. It's a very busy area...anyone could be walking by. Despite that incident I highly recommend this place. It was great!

Too hard to sleep!!!
This unit is VERY small for the 5 people it advertises. There are only 3 rooms plus bathroom and the back room they call a bedroom/den - ha - not a chance of it being a den, it's the size of a large closet with a twin bed. How does that qualify as a den? Everyone sitting on the bed to watch TV? If you read the description that says there is a bedroom up stairs, it does not mean this unit. Upstairs is separate unit, where you can hear every step. There are THREE reasons you cannot sleep well in this unit. 1) the floor creaks with EVERY step. Not so important until someone gets up to go to the bathroom! 2) you have NO control over the thermostat, it's behind lock & key. So we wanted to lift the windows but the traffic noise is VERY loud, especially Mon-Fri 3) there are blinds, but it does NOT keep out the extremely bright morning sun. They could fix this problem by buying $100 worth of room darkening curtains! Also, there is a kitchen but there might be 2 pots - so if you want to cook, better make it a one skillet dinner! On the up side - the price, the location (one block over is the bus stop taking you to attractions) and there is a grocery store, target & restaurants within a block or two. Tip: As far as transportation, use UBER. Cabs are very expensive, the colored train lines are $4.50 one way, the bus is affordable at $1.75 per ride. So use the bus (limited on weekends) or UBER. We found UBER the best.

Great area, great value.
This was a great place to stay for the value. Close to shopping and metro. My main complaint would have to be that the television cable did not work so we did not have TV. We are not big TV watchers so we just pulled out our books and were fine, but I know some travelers would be put out with this. The beds only had fitted sheets on the mattresses with no top sheets. I like to sleep between two sheets. Other that that it is a great vintage property with tons of charm.

Pleasant stay
We had a wonderful stay in this apartment during our recent visit to our nation's capital. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped, and the location can't be beat. We cooked most of our meals in the apartment, but we ate at several restaurants that were a short, easy walk from the apartment even in January.
Mr. Chiazo was very busy the day we arrived so it took him a while to get our parking pass, but once we received it we had no trouble parking on the street.
We enjoyed our stay very much and would not hesitate to book this property again.

Nice quaint apartment in a wonderfully bustling location.
The place was quaint and in a great location. There are many stores and restaurants on the next block over and also a Metro station.
There were a few basic items missing from the kitchen such as pot holders. The toaster did not work as well.
The beds were comfortable. We had a nice stay.

Clean and beautiful but noisy streets
The apartment/house was beautiful and clean. We stayed on the second floor which slept five people (2 queens beds and a twin). The beds were comfy and the suite roomy. The front bedroom which is next to the street is super loud. Bring ear plugs if you want to sleep. The back bedroom was perfect. Convienent and a three block walk to stores and the metro and great dining. Would stay again. Thanks.
4.5
Cute apartment in great location.
The apartment itself was fine. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen worked well etc. However, for us the best feature was the location. It is a cute neighborhood with the restaurants and cafes on 11th, the stores on 14th and of course the Metro at Columbia Heights. Would recommend without hesitation.

Convenient Columbia Heights
Lots of good things to say about Columbia Heights and this rental.
First, we really enjoyed the neighborhood. The rental unit is a block from a new grocery store, restaurants, Starbucks, Target, etc. and just a 1/2 block more to a Metro stop. I was worried about parking but there were plenty of spots available on the street as long as you're mindful of the street sweeping schedule. We got a permit through the landlord for $20 and it worked great. From the CH Metro stop it's only about a 10-15 min ride to most of the major sites (Smithsonian, Archives, etc.).
The unit itself is a 2nd floor apartment. You enter directly in to the kitchen. To the left (street side) is the main room which is both family room and bedroom. There are 2 queen beds. There is also a small desk and TV with 2 not very comfortable chairs. The beds were comfy and linens clean. I really enjoyed people watching out the front windows. Overall, the unit was very clean. It's a little worn in spots but nothing is grungy. The TV, wifi, appliances, dishes were all used and appreciated. The back bedroom is pretty tiny but does have a washer/dryer combo unit we used. The bathroom is about what you'd expect. Clean, lots of hot water, but the toiled had a problem where it takes a LONG time for the tank to refill so if you require more than one flush you may have to wait 5-10 mins ... not good for family of 4!
Honestly, the only minor quibbles we had were the toilet and a smoke detector that started beeping. We remedied the detector ourselves with a 5 min walk to the grocery store for a 9-volt battery. Did I say the location is convenient :0)
If anything the A/C worked too well but we won't complain about that given how muggy it was during our visit.
Overall, I would recommend this to anyone (provided you can manage the stairs) and would readily stay there again. I can't imagine how you could beat the price and convenient location.

Columbia Heights rental
Upon arrival, the unit was extremely hot. All vents were closed, and the thermostat was not located in the apartment. Located in hallway. Locked. Had to call Maintenance person to locate key to open thermostat cover to turn thermostat down from setting of 80. We opened all the vents.
Towels only 3, and 2 facecloths. One face towel. Called for more. Finally delivered more that evening.
Yes they do have a combo washer/dryer. Takes one hour to wash anything. Then 2 or more hours to dry.
the unit is very noisy and is located in only separate room.
There was room to have put a separate washer and dryer in this unit, not sure why this was not done.
Unit is very noisy. Can hear everything from unit on 3rd floor. (Walking, talking, Cooking)
Lots of traffic in front of unit. Only one television set in living/bedroom/kitchen area.
Need to walk through small bedroom to get to bathroom, so no privacy for guest.
Walk from Metro, areas you need to walk through a little sketchy. Not the best neighborhood at entrance to Metro, apprears to be lots of homeless people hanging around.
If you have a late flight and cannot get late checkout, there are no accommodations for leaving your luggage, to pick up later.
Overall unit was just ok, nothing special. Would not choose to stay there again.

Location is very close to the shops and train.
Everything was clean and tidy.
We had a great time, Thanks Lois.
