The home is even better than described. So many thoughtful details!! The use of the kayaks, paddle boards, and inflatables made our trip extra fun. We roasted marshmallows and told stories by the fire. State parks are just minutes away with wonderful hiking trails. Do not stress about booking here. Host is amazing and we will for sure return next summer.

The house was very clean and the amenities listed were great. We had a question about the TV and the agent never got back to us. She did get back to us on another issue. Overall it was a great property and would recommend it.

House was perfect for the 9 of us. It is in a great location, had a stocked kitchen, great outdoor toys! We had an amaxing weeklong stay!

We traveled from Georgia to Lake of Egypt for our family’s summer lake trip. The lake was beautiful!! We rented a boat from the local marina and were able to keep it right at the dock. Few hiccups in our stay…The information guide that the property management company sent listed the house as having a basement rec room w/ an extra kitchen which is a mistake and is a picture from another house. The house was spacious enough for our 7 family members (all adults) and While I understand that its just a “lake house” and that is where older furniture may be sent for its remaining days, it is time to replace the carpet upstairs and get new family room furniture if you want people to pay what you are asking for a week’s stay. I also had to clean out the pantry before being able to use it (cleaning team issue?) because it was full of debris from previous renters. I was also disappointed that the big water matt for the lake was ripped upon our arrival. There was an issue with the stove popping the curcuit breaker switch but the owner came out and said it was fine. We did enjoy our vacation time together and hope to visit the area again some day.

My family and I stayed over Memorial Day weekend and enjoyed the clean home and swimming off the dock.

Our family enjoyed the location and lake! The older grandkids had fun fishing and swimming. The lily pad was awesome! The house had all that we needed. The deck and outdoor space were lovely.

The location was perfect, it was quiet, relaxing, and beautiful. It was nice to be on the lake in a quiet neighborhood. The home was clean and just as advertised. It was perfect for relaxing and cooking after a couple of hikes to see the fall leaves in the forest. We did have an issue with getting the wifi to work, but a quick phone call to Allison and we had it working in less than a minute. Management was very responsive. Also, the guidebook they email you was the best I’ve seen in any of the hiking trips we’ve taken. We weren’t hear to get on the lake, but there was a variety of kayaks and the like for those who might want to do that. I recommend this property strongly.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Lookout on the Lake. There were 4 Boomers, 4 Millennials, and 2 toddlers in our group. The 3 queen bedrooms worked well for us, and the odd couple out used the loft to store their stuff and the foldout sofa in the living room for their bed. The open floor plan allowed us to keep an eye on the grandchildren even if we were in the kitchen. We enjoyed a fire in the firepit one pleasant evening - enough firewood had been left that we didn't need to buy any. The views of the lake are superb. Two of our brave folks even went out on the kayaks one of the warmer days. We found some great playgrounds in both Marion and Carbondale that the adults and little ones all enjoyed. One caution about the deck - the railing uprights are too far apart, so small children could fall through if not held by the adults. We brought our own outlet plugs and cabinet door protectors - found that Scrunchis worked just fine to keep curious kids out of the cookware. There was even one babygate in the garage that we set up at the top of the stairs to prevent accidental tumbles. The DirectTV system had way more viewing options than we had expected. Having a large washer/dryer also helped cut down on loads, since we could combine loads from different families. This house was a great space for us and provided what we needed for a long overdue family reunion.

The reservation, payment, and communication process through SIVR was second to none; Allison was proactive and helpful with all our questions & requests. The location and view are excellent, and the presence of kayaks & paddleboards is a big plus (though the kayaks have previously been handled a bit roughly). The lake & house are central to the Shawnee Forest attractions, but a bit of a drive to the east- and west edges. The house is spacious, clean, in good condition, and pretty well appointed. A couple small items in the kitchen need attention (largest gas burner on the stove, skillet condition, and over-sink light). The master suite is great but bedrooms 2 & 3 are moderate in size. We would stay there again.

We took a 3 hour trip with the goal of hiking, fishing, and relaxing. After a long day of hiking we checked into The Lookout and it felt very much like a pampering bonus for us. This home was bigger than what we usually get (honestly, next time we should do this with another family to really utilize the space) and we made the most of it. EVERYONE took baths in the spa tub (!!), fished off the dock and further down on the lake, relaxed and read on the patio and hammock, dinners outside every night watching the beautiful sunsets, snuggling up in front of the fire at night, and the kids LOVED reading/hanging out in the window nook. They were also thrilled with the bunk beds and cool stairs/ladder leading up to the loft! The virtual book that they provided with tips, restaurant & hiking suggestions was amazing too - we used that several times as a reference and we're never steered wrong! And finally we stay at a place with a plethora of towels! Allison was friendly, professional and very responsive to questions. We would highly recommend this home. If I had to state a negative, I'd say that the clothes washer/dryer were a bit loud - just avoid using it right before bed and you'll be ok ;)

It was obvious that we came in on top of someone else’s dirt and garbage. Still trash in garbage cans, toothpaste on mirrors, hair in tub and bed, debris visible under furniture, baby hair ties everywhere, dirty dishes in cabinets and drawers, drain under kitchen sink disconnected. Pretty gross, especially during this CoVid pandemic. 😓

Owners easy to work with. Property was great and the outdoor amenities were awesome! LOVED the online guidebook…very comprehensive!! Would definitely stay here again!

We stayed for a little over a week and had a relaxing enjoyable time! The house was as advertised - our 12 year old LOVED the lofted room! We went hiking and bicycling several days and it was a nice comfortable place to come to rest. We loved the lake toys, it was really nice to have enough kayaks for the a whole family. We spent a lot of time sitting on the dock or the in the backyard with the beautiful view. When we ran out of gas for the grill Allison had a new tank out really quickly. Check in and check out was quick and painless. Overall we had a great stay - thanks!!

This home on the lake was very nice. It had a large living room, kitchen and dining. The kitchen was well equipped with anything you might want. We had a great time. One of the nicer homes we have rented on our vacations from the east coast to the gulf coast.

The property was exactly what we were looking for when we booked earlier this year when we still didn't know what this summer was going to look like, which was a socially distanced family vacation with the option to venture out if restrictions got eased. The house was nice and clean and our teenager enjoyed having a private space up in the loft area, away from the other bedrooms. The kitchen was well stocked, with not only plenty of pots and pans and and utensils, but also coffee and creamer and spices and the like. The kids loved the huge lily pad float that was at the property and my husband and son made use of the kayaks. It is a pretty rural area, but we had read that before we got there, so we stopped at a grocery store about 20 minutes before we got to the house and bought groceries and I suggest anyone else do the same. Overall, it was just a perfect week for our family!! Would definitely stay here again!!

Just a weekend trip but it was nice, clean and right on the lake. We all enjoyed it quite a bit.

Our group of five adults had a great week, our first getaway in a long time. We enjoyed the amenities of a big open plan kitchen/great room space, relaxed on the patio watching the wildlife (herons, coots, mama mallard and fuzzball babies, loons, turtles), and explored the area. We did quite a bit of hiking and the region's wildflowers and dogwood trees were in full bloom in late April. There was one small maintenance issue that we reported during our stay -- Allison was on top of it and the owners came by to make the repair the same day. I would recommend the Lookout at the Lake for a trip to Southern Illinois.

The house had everything you could ask for, and a little more. Even came with k cups for coffee! Owner was very helpful and let me store my trailer at her place down the street since it didnt fit at the house ( she told me it wouldn't before hand). Overall a beautiful home in a great location. Definitely recommend a stay here.
