Good location, just a short walk into the city. Nice breakfast and more than enough parking just outside. Only complaints were a very soft bed (personal preference) and a shower that lacked pressure.

Nice place, check in was easy with the lockbox and easily accessible. On street parking was fine, quite a few spaces and on a fairly quiet street. Room was good, slightly old fashioned/not the most modern, but the bed was comfortable and the room was a good size. The choice of teas/coffees and biscuits in the room was a nice touch. The shower was a bit weak. Breakfast was ok, nice choice although not the best pancakes ever.

Lovely rooms with well made beds- provided plenty of warmth which is good since middle of February is quite cold. Brilliant location, within sensible walking distance of city centre and the station with reasonably safe walking routes to both, but without the downside of all the noise since it’s in a more residential area allowing for a better nights sleep versus the big brand hotels on the main streets. However, the real standouts are the wonderful owners who were very helpful and understanding throughout my stay and the quality breakfasts (the pancakes and the sausage sandwich were great). When I booked, I was moderately worried about shared bathrooms for my room but these turned out to be very clean at all points in the day so was not an issue, plus having a choice of 2 is very handy in case one is in use- never had to wait for one to become available. All in all very glad I booked a stay here, will now be the first place I check availability for on future visits to York. Thank you for the great stay.

We had a double room with en-suite shower and toilet. It was very clean, well-equipped, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was excellent with lots of options and a lovely "full English" as well. Parking needed to be requested prior to arrival and Helen then arranged for an online permit that allowed us park in the street outside. That went very smoothly. It took only about 20mins to walk to the city centre with numerous different routes to choose to do so which allowed us to explore even more. The city of York itself is fabulous and we enjoyed seeing in the New Year there. I would highly recommend The Farthings and we will go there again when we next visit York.

Very friendly, use the key lock to grab you keys when you arrive. Any issues just ring the mobile on the info by the door. Very easy to find, can cross the little park for a cheeky shortcut. Close to the station, over the river, first right left at Sainsbury's across the park and it's on the corner.

Lovely hotel, with welcoming host, who even parallel parked my car for me outside the hotel when I was struggling to park in the bay (free for guests) outside the hotel! You need to give your registration in advance to the hotel to be allocated a free spot… The hotel is very charming, with a lot of attention to detail and quirky ornaments which I particularly liked, being a cat lover! A hearty full English breakfast and other options are available - there are 2 sittings and you can specify your preference for 8.15 or 9.15 am breakfast the night before on a sheet in the lobby. I stayed in a single room 9 in the attic, which had a TV, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer, complimentary make up remover pads, sewing kit and shower cap. It was adjacent to the shared bathroom.

This Guest House is amazing place fantastic, The minute you got your key to get into the guest house you felt very comfortable and homely ,Our room was very clean and the beds where very comfortable plus you had a kettle to make your own tea bags,coffee even jar off hot chocolate power plus nice biscuits to go with your drinks aswell big bottle off water,we just like whole room even bathroom nice shower, You had a lovely choice to choose from for breakfast which breakfast was very good plus the staff where ready perlite and friendly ,plus the dining room was very clean really the whole place was very clean plus staff with wonderful, helpful it a great place to stay in as your not to far from the center aswell,love our stay a lot ,

Very clean, well run guest house. Excellent breakfast. Convenient location, just a short walk to the city centre.

The Hotel itself is a very old building. My room was on the second floor with very sharp staircase and at 77yrs of age was hard work getting case up and down. The other minus for me was the fact that there was no lounge to sit and relax in. The landlady was very welcoming and chatty, everywhere was very clean and tidy and the breakfast excellent. The shared bathroom was not for me even though I knew about it before hand. One bathroom between four bedrooms I found stressful. Overall I enjoyed me stay there, but doubt if I will visit again due to shared bathroom idea.

Must get parking permit before arrival. Very small over furnished rooms. Great breakfast and excellent location.

The property was a little way out of the centre, but fabulous. The only slight downside was the size of our room - a little on the small side. Everything else was wonderful though - the hosts were lovely, breakfast was excellent, with a great choice and plenty of it, with local produce, and the whole place was clean and homely.

Short break in York

The hospitality at Farthings is excellent. Not the first time we’ve stayed here, and certainly won’t be the last!

Nice property and wonderful, personable woman who runs the establishment. She even washed my shirt for free (despite offering money). Quiet at night too. My only nitpick would be to have a window mounted air conditioner installed in the future. Other than that, ... five stars.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Farthings Guest House. Very nice people, great breakfast and the location in York is ideal - close to the attractions. All within easy walking distance. Our room was lovely and full of character with even a washbasin in the bedroom. However the shower and toilet were very small. A slightly larger person would struggle in the shower. Overall our stay was great.

Helen was a very pleasent friendly host, nice distance from centre of York, will deffently stay again when visiting York

The accommodation was comfortable, if a little hot. The breakfast was very good. They were very accommodating allowing me to leave my luggage there until I was ready to leave. I was not keen on the "self check in" which, although easy, was very impersonal. I would also have appreciated being notified that it was a shared bathroom.

Lovely guest house with lovely host & staff, very clean, great en-suite room, great breakfasts, 15 minutes from York center so very close to all the attractions, will definetly book again for another break

I really enjoyed my stay, the room was clean, the breakfast choice was excellent, the price for York was reasonable, and the staff were friendly, couldn't fault anything.

Lovely victorian property, room small but well decorated and had all necessary facilities. Nice extra touches, mini cookies, make up remover etc.

My goddaughter and I had an amazing stay. It definitely added to our lovely trip to York. The hotel is quirky, clean, comfy beds, friendly hosts. The breakfast was delicious. We loved the dog Jasper as well😁 We would definitely recommend 👍
