A true hidden gem in the mountains. Off the beaten path but with the kindness of the hosts Roger and Rosi you feel right at home. Comfortable rooms, trails to explore, animals to feed and a pool to enjoy. Truly one of the best places we have ever stayed. The place is magic but the hosts are what really make this place special.

Our visit to this lodge was unforgettable! The rooms and all the property have a very special charm:) Everything was clean and very much thought about. We enjoyed the pool. The breakfast was amazing and plenty, they cooked eggs from their own chickens!
Owners' hospitality was exceptional, it was pleasure to meet such a wonderful couple!
We hike the trails and visited hot springs pool nearby. Highly recommend this place for families and couples, you will not regret:)

The hosts are very kind and helpful. The best service experienced so far.
The location is just beautiful. They have a very nice garden. There is also a trail nearby wich should lead you to a great view. We missed that because of bad weather. The host helpt us to find other locations to drive to where we could still hike and where it was expected to be dry. We felt very welcome and would advise everyone to stay here.
One towel had a stain.

The breakfast was amazing. We were the only ones on the property, so we had the pool, lodge and walking trails all to ourselves. We had access to the kitchen in case we needed anything.
I would highly, highly recommend this place.

The owner is super nice and friendly. He helped us organize our time in the mountains, recommend great restaurants, hot spring and road to get to the volcano.
There is a beautiful game room with the fire and pool. We enjoy our evening there.

We had pretty high expectations based on previous reviews and we were not disappointed! First, despite the long gravel road, the setting in the countryside was just lovely. Our room overlooked a garden and there was a stream and pond close to our room. The swimming pool was fabulous. Second, the hosts, Roger & Rosie, were such nice people who made us feel so comfortable and at home. They recommended a great restaurant nearby and anticipated our every need. We took advantage of hiking trails on the property, enjoyed great breakfasts in the garden, and easily accessed tours and restaurants. When we took a wrong turn late at night, Roger came and saved us, showimg us the way back home.
We only stayed in the area for a couple of days but we had a thoroughly enjoyable experience and would definitely recommend this charming lodge.

The hospitality at Malekus was fantastic. One feels completely attended to. Homemade breakfasts were wonderful. Lots do do in the area as long as the weather is good, though one can always drive to better weather.

Everything! BEAUTIFUL facilities! The breakfast was wonderful. Unlimited fruit, toast, rolls, coffee, tea, cereal at breakfast if desired. In addition to hot breakfast served. Then, Roger makes you a pitcher of your own fresh fruit/vegetable smoothie. The owners are the kindest, most helpful people that have ever hosted me. Also A+ on the cleanliness. Always mopping, wiping down everything. The pool area was very refreshing after a hike through the property.
I would’ve loved if there was dinner available. I would recommend information sheet for the guests regarding the property. How deep are the ponds on the property, what type of wood was used for the doors, for the beds, average rainfall at the property, etc? It was such a cool, unusual place with all the volcanic stones used.

Nice place. Good wifi. Friendly staff. Good breakfast
In spite what is written on Booking I could not pay by card, very annoying if you hear that on the morning when leaving. So I had to collect cash at the last moment.

If you are looking for a peaceful place, in nature, with excellent hosts, this is undoubtedly the right place. The rooms are very welcoming. Several breakfast options, always well prepared. The whole farm is wonderful, a fantastic pool, very well-maintained common spaces, with plenty of space to walk and lots of wildlife. It's close to several national parks. Roger and his wife are wonderful hosts! Always concerned about your stay and showing you around, with lots of tips, always available to help. In addition, they are extremely concerned about transforming the area into a better place, very concerned about the surrounding nature and wildlife. We loved talking and getting to know each other better and we have no other way of expressing how fantastic this place was - next time we return to Costa Rica we will definitely come back here!

Remote location but easy to find. Owners Roger and Rosie were so friendly and helpful. I like staying in places that you actually meet the owners. You can tell they care about the lodge very much.
Swimming pool was not available due to restoration.

We’ve traveled quite a lot, but this is by far the place where we’ve met the kindest, most dedicated and benevolent owners of all our trips! We cannot emphasize enough how much we’ve appreciated our stay here, with their great advices, rooms (and breakfast)! We should have definitely stayed longer… This place is a gem!

If you are in Costa Rica, you should spend a few days here! This place has great rooms, a nice pool, a huge beautiful garden, its own 3 hours jungle trail, which is nicer than the once in the national parks nearby. Both rincon and rio celeste national park are a 40 minutes drive away. Thermal baths 15 min drive, and the start of the climb of the nearby vulcano 10 min.
The owners are lovely people, which have only one goal, and that is to contribute to the well being of their guests. Breakfast is great, best I had in costa rica. Lot of choice. For dinner, there is one restaurant in walking distance, normal food, not too fancy.
I travelled without a car. The owner picked me up from the busstop in Aguas Claras, and arranged transport to and from the national parks.

Beautiful lodge with extraordinary pool situated in a big, lovely garden with a lot of plants, birds and frogs and a pond. We had a beautiful, very clean room. There is a spacious open covered terrace where breakfast is served. Breakfast is delicious and rich, and provides everything one could think of, including a variety of bread, cereals, yoghurt, lots of fresh fruits, eggs, rück beans and vegetables, plus as much coffee/tee and fresh juices as you like. There is fast Wifi. The owners/hosts are extremely friendly, attentive and warm-hearted, and also provided us with tips and suggestions for activities.
Absolutely nothing.

Exceptional facilities, supremely friendly and helpful hosts. They have worked diligently to plant hundreds of native trees and bushes that attract birds and wildlife. There is a chemical-free infinity pool, there are fish ponds and there is a trail through a lush forest to a panoramic view of the Atlantic lowlands.
We didn't have a car (recommended) - though Roger and Ros8ie were super helpful in shuttling us as needed.

Roger and Rosie have created a lovely eco-retreat right next to Miravalles Volcano (and less than an hour from Tenorio/Rio Celeste). This is an ambitious project: Roger has built much of the lodge himself (the heavy wooden doors seem artistically medieval, for example). They have planted thousands of trees and flowers (think wildlife and birds), and continue to harvest seeds and propagate new stock for plantings. Pool is great, spacious. Rosie’s breakfasts are outstanding and more than ample. It’s not on any major tourist routes (yet), however this is a really superb, affordable facility. (OK, it’s a steal.) Best with a car (though we didn’t have one as availability was scarce, and we made it work with their affordable shuttles). The four of us LOVED these kind people and appreciated their hospitality and generosity! Pura Vida Roger y Rosie!
Nada.
