About this cabin rental
Log cabin (renovated in 2021) nestled in a beautiful valley within the Black Hills National Forest. The cabin is secluded with only one other rental cabin on the property (Cabin 1, VRBO #2418812). Your morning view will often include white tail and mule deer coming down the hillside to graze in the meadow. Within minutes of Custer State Park, this charming studio cabin includes amenities of a full kitchen, spacious bathroom, internet and Dish TV, gas grill, and can sleep 4 guests with a queen bed and queen sofa sleeper. After a day of enjoying all the Black Hills has to offer, spend your evening relaxing around the fire pit.
In 2024 our internet provider finished their fiber optics installation, now providing us with high-speed internet service.
The Cabin is located at 12554 Hazelrodt Cutoff which is 3 miles from Custer, SD, 1.2 miles south on Sydney Park Road, county oil, 1.9 miles east on Hazelrodt Cutoff, county gravel, then left at the HIDDEN VALLEY CABIN sign, follow the driveway to the second cabin on the right.
Great cabin for a couple or a family up to 4. This cabin along with cabin 1 would be a great option for two families to enjoy their vacation together.
We have a trail camera, when it is turned on it only covers the parking area and the fire pit (not the cabins or the area around the cabins). We generally turn the trail camera on to see when our guests arrive and to monitor the fire pit since the property is in the middle of the Black Hills National Forest.

Stayed for a few days and this was the perfect little spot. Owners were helpful and friendly. We brought our UTV and traveled trails and hung out in the small towns. Would recommend!

The little cabin was perfect for me and my 3 teenage kids. The location was great, and private. The property was clean and well maintained, as advertised. The owner was quick to respond to my one and only request. Overall, was exactly what we were looking for and needed. Every activity and site we were wanting to see/do was nearby. We would definitely recommend. Thanks

This little cabin was wonderful. One thing that the listing does not clearly state is that there is another cabin right there next to it that is also vrbo, not a problem just nice to know. It was a quiet, clean, comfortable stay, also with a great location being only a few minutes from Custer but also out in the woods. We would definitely stay here again.

We will be back! This cabin was perfect for the wife and I. Felt like you were out in the mountains but just 7 min. from the nearest grocery store. This place was great!

The cabin was just as described in the listing. The cabin and all of the kitchen equipment appeared new. There was a TV and the WiFi worked very well.
Check in and check out procedures were very clear.
The location is very convenient to the surrounding attractions and easy to get to.
I highly recommend this cabin.

We were so very pleased with the cabin, the amenities, the location, the privacy and the owners of the property. Very clean and the location is fantastic. Close to everything you would want to do in the Custer State Park area. We will rent from them again and we have already given referrals to friends and family. Loved our stay. You will not be disappointed.

This is a very clean updated cabin in a beautiful location. The location is quiet, but close to Custer and there is plenty of fun things to do nearby. I would stay there again and recommend it to friends.

My husband and I traveled to Custer, SD, to explore the Black Hills, Crazy Horse, Mt. Rushmore and Custer State Park. These attractions are all within minutes of this cute, little, secluded cabin. It offered all the comforts of home. Check in was super easy! GPS directions are a bit funky, but the owners provided us with proper directions and we had no problems finding it. There is a grocery store and gas station within minutes. Beautiful scenery and some wildlife!

We will definitely return!! It was the perfect spot to return to after a day of sightseeing, hiking and shopping. Took advantage of the gas grill every night. A beautful, clean and peaceful cabin!!

This was our 2nd time staying at this property and it will not be our last! It is a beautiful, secluded cabin just a few minutes’ drive from Custer. The cabin has everything you might want and the bed is very comfortable. Everything is exactly as portrayed in the photos. The hosts were extremely responsive and gave us great suggestions on things to do. I highly recommend this property!

Easy process with the host to secure the reservation. Property is centrally located to many venues within the Black Hills. Directions were spot on and property was easy to locate. We enjoyed the quiet of the location and our friendly morning deer visitor’s. Great couples cabin.

The cabin was a great spot to have a lovely Black Hills long weekend. Convenient location to get to the surrounding sites and towns, but quiet and secluded.

This cabin is off the beaten track, but still just minutes from Custer and all the attractions the Black Hills have to offer. It was immaculate and has up-to-date furnishings. We didn't have any neighbors until the last night and they were quiet so it was a very peaceful stay. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

Very clean, quiet, and convenient to the town of Custer. Also a great location for exploring Custer park and all the surrounding areas you will want to see. Owners are great.

This recently updated cabin offered everything you would want for a family vacation. Our family of three loved the quiet setting off a gravel road. The location was fantastic for outings to all the fun places the Black Hills has to offer. You are a half hour way from Lake Sylvan, Needles Highway, Mount Rushmore, The Custer State Park lodges, and the Wildlife Loop. Make sure you get off the beaten path and drive on some of the gravel roads on the Loop, you will be rewarded! I would highly recommend staying at Hidden Valley Cabins!

My wife and I stayed in Cabin 2 which had a queen bed and sleeper sofa. The cabin is fairly new and both the kitchen and bathroom are modern and immaculate, as is the rest of the cabin. The cabin has a refrigerator with freezer, and full-sized range and microwave which we liked. Custer and the Black Hills are very popular and busy tourist destinations and my wife and I really looked forward to driving the nine minutes or so from Custer to get to Cabin 2 to decompress after a busy day of sightseeing. The cabin is literally out in the woods but not completely isolated. There is a Cabin 1 on the property and the hosts, Jim and Mary live further down the gravel road from the cabins in case anything goes wrong. You need to drive maybe 1.5 to 2 miles off the paved roads to get to the cabin but the dirt road is well-graded and used by the many residents that live on the large properties nearby. We actually enjoyed driving the dirt road because we would often see families of deer off to the sides of the road. If you're looking for quiet, scenery and relaxation after a day of sightseeing you will really like this place.

My wife of 28 years and I only take vacations every 3 yrs or so, but when we do we try to make it count. It was by pure luck or by the His grace that we were led to this great little hidden gem in the hills outside of Custer SD. The cabin was the perfect size and location for what we needed and all within a 30 min drive of all the area sites to see: Mt. Rushmore; Needles hwy; Crazy Horse; wildlife loop rd; Wind Cave; Jewel Cave and the many lakes in the area.
The cabin was clean, well equipped and it was a pleasure to sit and chat at the picnic table with our Host Jim.......our only regret was not being able to meet Mary, but that just gives us one more reason to come back!!
Book it up, you won't regret it.

Hidden Gem in the Black Hills
Our stay at Hidden Valley Cabins was wonderful. The cabins (only 2) are conveniently located about 10 minutes from Custer and about 10 minutes to Custer State Park, and a short 30 minute drive to Mt Rushmore. Even though you are close, you are completely removed from the hustle of the traffic and crowds and very quiet and private. It is a secluded cabin in the heart of the Black Hills. The cabins are on private property and located off well maintained gravel road that are easy to drive and find your way. Yet close enough to town and services with a very easy drive. We saw several types of wildlife just looking out our front door and on walk we took along the road.
The check in process was smooth and exactly as what was provided by the hosts. Upon entry, the cabin was immaculate and very, very, clean. These are newly renovated and upgraded. All services were exactly as provided in the description. The WiFi was fast and did not have any issue with connecting (as I had to do a little work). The cabin is fully furnished with all the necessary cookware, utensils, and other items as needed. The property also provides a propane BBQ grill, a picnic table, two camp chairs, among other all the other necessities.
We had a chance to meet the hosts; they are very friendly and conscientious that we had everything we needed and were enjoying everything the area had to offer.
The property and cabin at Hidden Valley is indeed a "Hidden Gem" and we will plan to stay here again on our next visit to the Black Hills.

Beautiful Setting in the Hills
We love the Custer area. This was a lovely setting and cabin was recently renovated and well-equipped. You really won’t need to bring more than your suitcase and your eats and drinks. Our 6-year-old granddaughter joined us and she loved the “tame” bunny that grazed regularly in the yard, and the deer we saw frequently along the drive into Custer. Jim and Mary are available if you need anything and have created a great vacation get-away.

It was a great cabin for the 2 of us. It was very clean and had what we needed. Just to give you a heads up you do have to drive on a very dusty road to get to the cabin.
