The hostel kitchen was disgusting and a complete chaos with a lack of amenities and nothing was clean...
6.0
Friendly officers.
Kitchen facilities and common room need to upgrade and improve.
7.0
Amenities, location and services.
Kitchen was a disaster, very messy and dirty. Eating lounge same thing.

The owner is nice and helpful
The smell from the truck full of rubbish next to the hostel was awful. It’s not clean, the fire alarm went on two times in one day. It’s dilapidated.

The building is very cool, old one with high ceiling, squeaking wooden floor and old interiors. I slept in a bedroom with 8 bunks beds, with just two other persons sleeping in it
I didn’t have a socket near to my bed so I couldn’t charge my devices during the night. Maybe the room was a bit cold. The cleaning (room and bathrooms) is not the strength point

Kitchen wasn't the cleanest

Bed was comfortable, easy check-in
Room was really dirty but bed was clean. Main areas extremely in poor repair

Nice and quiet location in a heritage building.value for money.
Could have had one more sink in the kitchen.

location
a bit dirty, no staff present the entire time I was there, I saw some other guest come in and their bed was used - not the hostels fault but on the phone the response was “what do you want me to do about it?” which I find unacceptable. I travel full time and I’ve never experienced anything like that
4.0
Location, spacious room and helpful staff (they helped us to quickly check in after hours).
Not very clean overall, specially the bathroom.
The whole building urgently needs maintenance.
2.0
Dirtiness everywhere, holes and walls falling appart.
No single plugs or lights in the rooms.
Old blankets and pillows.
Expensive for 0 service

The Arthouse is a grand old house that may have seen better days, but is a great value for money. The staff was very helpful when it came to my specific needs and the residents I met were very friendly. Besides, the hostel is just around the corner from Launceston’s Queen Victoria Museum and the Tramway Museum and ten minutes walk from the city centre. There is an affordable city shuttle service from and to the airport and one can book a pick-up from the Arthouse. So all in all very satisfactory for this price range.

Photo was accurate to the room we got. Pete was friendly and welcomed us into the space, explaining how everything worked and where everything was. We got a nice view out the room window and the beds were made up nicely for us. It's an old building which comes with many quirks etc - this didn't bother us as we had managed our expectations (and were grateful for the upgrade to a warm bed and shower from camping prior!)

Price is low, location is good. That's about all that there is to like these days.
This place used to be cheap and cheerful, but comfortable and clean. It is now filthy in the bathrooms, the kitchen is diabolical, and the common areas are in need of cleaning also. I checked out early and found another place.

Bathroom hot water was good enough, if you turn all the way to the hot side. Shared kitchen has enough necessary stuff for all users.
One tiny heater is definitely not enough to heat up a big room for 8 persons. There was only 4 of us in the room and it was chilling on a night close to zero degrees. It is insufficient if you are not a 'winter' person. We all had to put on our winter jackets to sleep.

The hostel was quiet. I was the only person in my room for the whole stay there. The permanent residents are super friendly and we watched movies together in the loungeroom and cooked and had communal lunches. location; its near the river so you have a beautiful view from the window/balcony on the top level which you can go upto btw. There is a pub, servo, boost juice, and coffee van like 2 minutes walk away. There are also usually neuron/lime scooters parked out the front so that makes it quicker to get into town.
The couches were kind of gross because they are old which is understandable. Also the bathroom floor is mouldy because water leaks from the shower door. And the heaters aren't the most efficient.

The bed was clean, slightly comfortable. The door was barely secure. The power chord across the head of the bed, across the door frame and hanging for the heater was novel but potentially a hazard.
The aromas from the food cooked by the young Indian guests was wonderful.
The shuttle to the airport came earlier than expected so, we left quickly.
At about 9 o'clock (we were in bed, almost asleep), our door was opened, the light turned on, a head appeared around the door asking if we were 'Jane' and if we had the key to another room (How does that make any sense at all).
We read the sign on the wall asking us to take the sheets etc to the reception as we left - no-one in attendance - we put the sheets back in the room (?).
