Courtyard cottage is a very quiet cottage in a beautiful setting with a comfortable bed, with a wonderful, secluded and sunny garden with birds and squirrels in a lovely little market town with shops, the railway station, lovely pubs, charity shops and sights really nearby - very convenient, especially when you travel alone. I had some special needs related to my health when I was staying at Courtyard Cottage, which the hosts accommodated upon my request straightaway. Really appreciated that! What I also liked was their prompt refund of my cleaning deposit
The cottage owners live across the courtyard, where they run a B & B. I wasn't aware of this and really had some trouble with the lack of privacy, even though the hosts are really friendly people, especially because I wasn't aware of the fact that the hosts live only 3 meters away from the cottage when I booked. At home I do not lack any privacy, so it was a little upsetting. My main concern, however, lay in the fact that there was a typical smell, in fact an overpowering stench, in the cottage that I couldn't stand - very stale, muggy and old, like in an antique shop, which got worse when the radiators were switched on. They may be the cause of the stench and may need deep cleaning... Also, it was hardly possible to air the cottage as there are only windows on one side of it. These windows are awning windows with a very narrow opening. I never felt the air was clean and fresh, which really bothered me the whole week, also because of my health issues. I didn't discuss the awful smell with the owners; how could it be solved? No idea, also because my sense of smell could be different from theirs and they wouldn't perhaps smell the stench. In hindsight I feel I should have brought it up as it made me feel very uncomfortable and unhappy especially when I returned to the cottage from a nice day out in the open air. They were probably not aware of it, as hosts, and they should be. They responded very well to my health issue but I was afraid the hosts would find me a real nuisance for bringing up a second issue. But as a guest you should get what you deserve based on the website info, esp. when you don't feel well physically. So to all booking.com guests: always bring up your complaints!! The cottage deserves a touch up in terms of air quality as it is really gorgeous, really nicely decorated, well-equipped and very modern in design in terms of pillows and pieces of art as decorations.

The cottage was comfy, cosy and easy to heat (in a rather chilly March). The owners were very close should anything go wrong but they weren't intrusive. It was very central in Knaresborough but quiet and secluded. It was also well-lit when returning at night in the dark.
The only improvement would be if the kitchen area was slightly larger but the space had been thoughtfully utilised and the full cooker was a bonus.

The cottage was small but very comfortable. However in the advert it said it had a washing machine, a DVD player, a CD player and a desk. It had none of these things. I think the advert should be changed immediately as this is false advertising.
A washing machine as advertised. This was the main drawback.

I love the location. It is very close to variety of shops, pubs, and places to go and things to do within walking distance. We found a Chinese take away that we really enjoyed the food.
The place is small and it is not easy to walk around with ease the rooms with ease. Kitchen is small and even though this flat is for two, there is a dinning table and four chairs which takes a lot of space. If two chairs and the big table be removed and the four chairs and table will be changed for two, it will be much better. The shower is bad and water switches to hot and cold and doesn't allow to take a proper shower.

Very small bedroom, hardly any storage space for clothes.Shower room fine but needs a hook on door.

Broadband speed! Great location, very short walk to town and very good restaurants
Very small shower room, tiny basin with no elbow room. Kitchen good for snacking and oven baking, no space for food prep - washing up a challenge. Eating out recommended apart from breakfast!

Great quiet location and loved the new puppy that the owners had. Will certainly go back.

A lovely cottage, small but with everything you need. Spotlessly clean and lovely hosts
Parking not on site, but very easy to park at York Place a 10 minute walk away. £1.60 for 24 hours, we would walk down after dinner and put another 24 hours on

Excellent town centre location and easy to find. Well equipped and very comfortable stay. Nice friendly hosts.
Especially liked the private courtyard area for relaxing.
Only negative is the car parking......long stay is 10-15 minutes walk away and you have to top up each day as 24 hrs is the maximum stay period.

The property is situated in a little courtyard which was fully enclosed with large key opening door to enter. We took our dogs with us and knowing the courtyard was escape proof we could let them wander in and out. The lovely bright decorations in the cottage combined with the tradition of the building brought it up to date while feeling the history of the place. The courtyard itself has strings of solar powered fairy lights and the mix of planting gave it the feel of being in the Mediterranean but in the middle of town. A lovely place to stay and we hope to be able to do so again
