On the contrary of other reviews I liked the old look. I guess the owners could promote its history and how old the house is and sell it from that point of view
The lady who served breakfast was so unwelcoming. If she is the owner then I don't understand why she would sabotage the hotel. if she is not, she was sure that I would give a bad review.
She seemed to make an effort that the guests would feel upset. It could be that we were not English then it is another issue. For example, we put our suitcases in front of the door and the room door was open. It was 10:10 and the check out time was 10. Although it was so obvious that we were about to leave the room (just ten minutes late) and the room door was open and the suitcases being outside, she came and said "do you know that check out time was ten right?" Another thing is that she was surprised that our 7 year old son would also have breakfast. She wasn't going to serve him until we noticed and told her that he would like to have breakfast as well! The thing is that we only engaged with this person for maybe around half an hour and it was enough for her to make us feel uncomfortable. Her attitude was against the concept of hospitality if nothing else. Another example is that when my wife got down from the room , she asked for a room number. My wife said 6 and she told my wife off "how come every one is number 6! " Obviously the lady made a mistake by giving us the wrong room(we didn't care) it was enough for her to tell people off! The last thing is beware of the check in time as it is quite early and the hotel doesn't message and notify you about it.

On a weekend when England were playing Wales at the Principality this was exceptional value for money compared to alternatives. Yes, an hours train ride into Cardiff, but not an issue. We were well looked after; Comfortable, good food, and an offer of a lift to the station plus arranging for our late return on Saturday went beyond what you would expect.
A noisy bathroom fan but not a major issue!

The food was very varied and very good
The room was in the attic, floor uneven and lacked bedside tables and lights. Had to switch the main light off and then get into bed in the dark.

The staff were very wecoming & very nice people. The room was all we needed & the bar down stairs was a great place to talk, drink & eat good food plus mix with the local people that used the bar. Got to learn about the local area & they even had a quiz night that we were welcome to take part in. It was a small 10 bed hotel with no phones in room or flash entry cards to worry about. Looking forward to returning again soon.
Not sure much could be better, It was a old fasion place that fits in with the way things should be Yes it dose food plus a bar but it makes you fill at home. If there was something i did not like its the plastic sheet screens at the bar because of covid

Staff were all very nice, great menu/ choice of food, quality of food including the rabbit and the home made fruit pies, large portion sizes. Food is very good value for money.
Dodgey door locks, taps not secured to basin and extremely difficult to turn on/off, mold on shower ceiling, very noisy extractor fan in bathroom, toilet constantly drip filling all night, general poor state of repair. TV often without any reception.

3. Warm
Cons:
1. Noisy (banging doors means got woken up a lot)
2. Tiny creaky bed
3. Tatty condition

Breakfast was amazing, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The room itself was good and had everything needed, it just looked a little tired and was a bit small - but for the price paid it was really good. The tea and coffees were ample, as was the soap and towels. Bed was comfortable and nice that it was a proper quilt unlike most places now adays!
Room was a little small, and floor uneven (floor boards missing in the corridor?) it just looked a little tired and needed a bit of TLC. When i booked, it said that the prepayment would be taken on arrival. (or if cancelled too late). When i cam to leave i had to put my card into the machine, and whilst no riginal payment had come out - it made it as though i had paid twice - normally the hotel takes the payment from the card details already supplied and thus checkout is easier and quicker - just thought this was a little odd

Perfect location for touring Brecon Beacons. The locals in the bar were friendly, and the hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was very good and excellent value for money. As was the hotel itself. The bed was so comfortable, I overslept and was late for breakfast! But what a breakfast! I will definitely be staying again.
My own fault for not reading the details. But after a long drive (over 3 hours) I would have liked to have been able to soak in a bath rather than having just a shower in the room.
