Had the refurbished room which was good. The parking was dreadful as the hotel used the space to park cruise passengers. Breakfast was very good. Bit of a distance from centre of city, good for ParkRun though.

I was given a room larger than expected at no extra cost.

Stayed here one night before cruise, parked the car and picked it up after cruise ended. we had a lovely breakfast. The room was new and very clean and comfortable. Would recommend the hotel to others and have already booked to return. Took the bus into town of the morning after breakfast, stops are outside so not far to walk.

Stayed for three nights (Sunday through Tuesday). The hotel has a great location but being on the Avenue in Southampton means that the traffic noise is awful particularly if your room is on the front of the building. The rooms are dated but clean as were the linen and towels. The breakfast was good and the coffee excellent. The evening meal was uninspiring. The staff are incredibly polite, friendly and helpful and cannot be faulted.

Had a great stay only little comment is in my room on the ground floor overlooking the rear car park there is no blind in the bathroom and the toilet is directly under the window. When the light is on you can actually see in the bathroom from outside. The lady on duty Sunday evening and Monday morning was lovely, her customer service is exemplary

Not use to old English hotels. No elevator was the only real problem. My fault. No A/C, but it was September and not that warm out. Staff was very good.

The staff were exceptionally accommodating, and the room was both spacious and comfortable. The hotel's location offers easy access to public transport which allows you to explore Southampton and Winchester

Very clean hotel. We ate at their restaurant, the food was very good. We had the omelette and steak and ale pie. Bar/restaurant had good, happy vibe as most guests, including us, we going on a cruise the next day. Staff couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful.

Our room was small, but very nice and very clean. Oddly, to gain access we had to walk through an uneven (gravel) parking lot around to the back of the property. Unlike other rooms, our room was not accessible from the hotel lobby.

An amazing hotel, convenient for what we needed. We had dinner and breakfast there the food was great and plenty to choose from and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this hotel, will see you all again soon

Very good for transport in and out of Southampton making it an ideal place to stay

Peaceful, secluded and very pleasant back garden to relax in. Great walking access to the Common, the university and the downtown. Friendly manager. Generous "full English" breakfast.

If you've mobility issues, then I recommend requesting a ground floor room. The stairs are narrow and there is no lift/elevator. Overall, I'd highly recommend this property over any of the chain hotels in the surrounding area.

It was andy for the cruise terminal. Parking was ok, however bed hard for me, room hot. Not much choice for food and restaurant staff seemed distracted. We have booked somewhere else for next years stay before the cruise.

No elevator/bad part of town

Property needs a bit of an update, our room needed some repair, especially in the bathroom, missing tiles around the sink, poorly painted areas, lino in the bathroom not fitted properly, tiles not grouted properly. Paint around windows not done properly as paint is left on them. The pillows in the rooms are awful, thin teabag like pillows, like the ones you get at Pontins. We had to book a table for breakfast, when we got there at the booked time we were told to wait as there were no tables spare, we waited half an hour in reception for a table. The cooked breakfast is not worth the money, it was not hot either. The reception staff were very nice and professional though.

Lovely place, staff are very helpful and friendly. Would stay there again.

Great value and very friendly staff

Very nice bedroom. Parking available outside the hotel which many hotels i looked at, did not have. Food was good, the dining and bar area downstairs was quite small but the breakfast room as fine.

Nice place nice breakfast booked day before we travelled

The furniture was dated & poor. There was no wardrobe, just a wobbly clothes rail, and the bedside lamp shades were also loose. Overall the room decoration felt dated and badly in need of a refurbishment. However, the staff were excellent - very friendly & attentive.

Our room had been newly renovated. The old part of the hotel retained most of the older English charm.

Friendly and efficient service. Clean and comfortable. Close enough to the centre of the city but far enough away for a calm and quiet stay.

The property in itself was OK but our room had issues that really should be addressed, the main one being the extractor fan not working in a windowless bath room. The bathroom itself could do with some TLC, but the issue with the extractor fan is a real let down. I have made the hotel aware, so will not go in to great detail until I hear back from them with their solutions. I'll try to remember to update if and when I hear back from them.

We had the whole family to stay for our wedding for 5 days, so at times around 20 people for dinner which they handled very well. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff,the meals were fantastic (and they had real ale which was a bonus). Cant thank all the staff enough,they looked after my now wife the entire time making sure she had what she needed... and the gift before we left was truly touching... thank you so much... wont be back for my wedding ,but hopefully someone else's!!!!
