Really enjoyed staying at the Victorian house in Dexter. Enjoyed reliving the history of the property. the Fall Festival in Winterset was amazing

Darlene was a great host answering all of our questions and very responsive, Things we liked: Front porch swing Gathering on the porch The coffee maker (love Bunn) Beds were comfortable enough Things we did not like: The washer was unusable. We had to wash our clothes elsewhere as there was no way we could use it. One shower for 8 people is not sustainable. The upstairs bath has a tub but no shower and not many are inclined to bathe on vacation when they can’t wash their hair. Not as clean as it should be. The dishes and silverware we washed before we used as they just were not clean. Bathroom downstairs needs a thorough cleaning!! Central air had to run at 66 downstairs to try to make the upstairs remotely tolerable. That is to say we had to freeze downstairs so family upstairs could TRY to sleep comfortably which made it uncomfortable I grew up in an old house. I understand they are not perfect, but clean is clean. The dishwasher left “film” on all of the dishes - maybe it was the water? And the bathroom did NOT feel like it was clean, with dust in a lot of places. Like whoever was cleaning it just didn’t care that much. I wanted to give this place a better review but I also feel the need to be honest for those who are looking to stay just as I depend on others when I am doing the same. It is an old home being restored and the woodwork is gorgeous. Perhaps it just wasn’t a good fit for us.

It was a really nice house to gather with a group of friends to game all weekend. The kitchen was nice, a few dishes weren't the cleanest, but that's been on par for most rentals with dishes. The floor boards were pretty squeaky, but that's to be expected with an older house. We love the Victorian style of home, so it was nice to be able to stay in one for the weekend!

I stayed here with my sister on our way back east. The house was easy to access from I-80 and spacious enough to accommodate two families. We loved the big front porch and watching fireflies in the backyard. Great location and great house with lots of character.

Needed a large enough place to stay while we where there for a graduation! Excellent communication with the renter! Was very clean! And the house was amazing! We are already planning another trip to stay there again!! Highly recommend!

Nice, quiet neighborhood, plenty of room. We had 67+ Trick or Treaters who loved our Gnome costumes. So much fun!

What a beautiful historic home. The house was clean, the furniture was comfortable and the kitchen had more than what we needed. The location was great. The host (Darlene) was a pleasure to work with. We would definitely stay again.

Small town quiet

The owner was AMAZING! Anytime I had a question I just texted her and she responded super quickly! She was beyond friendly. The house was the perfect size for 8 of us to spread out and enjoy! The backyard was perfect for a fire! The house was very clean and had everything we needed! I would highly recommend staying here!

Stayed at this beautiful house and property while visiting parents. The house was an amazing Victorian style with lots of character and was spacious and comfortable. The kids had a great time and we enjoyed the rooms and amenities available. The property manager was great to work with and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. We recommend staying here if you want a nice place to relax. We will definitely be back!

This was my 4th time renting this beautiful Victorian home. It is always a relaxing home for our week-long sister retreats and other short visits. Darlene is a pleasure to work with and she always communicates with us to ensure we have everything we need. Thank you, Darlene!

This was our third stay at your lovely Victorian for our annual Sister Retreat. We spent most of our week long stay cooking, playing games, and simply relaxing. We had a large Thanksgiving dinner with family. Everyone enjoyed themselves and loved your home. Thank you!

Our group of 5 ladies loved staying in this home. It was beautiful, comfortable & fully stocked. There is so much character and detail on this lovely property. It was close to our covered bridges tour but in a quiet neighborhood. Darlene was a wonderful host, she checked in on us and answered our questions promptly.

Five women on their way to a P.E.O. convention in Des Moines, took a 4-day hiatus here before heading to convention. The house was beautiful and well-appointed and perfect for the 5 of us. The owner checked in with us several times and was ready to help if we had any issues...which we didn't! Loved the big beds and the comfortable seating...and the big kitchen. AC worked well as did all the appliances. Neighbor was friendly...even brought us fresh vegetables from his garden. Would highly recommend to any one wishing a quiet get-away and easy access to John Wayne Museum, covered bridges, and the city of Des Moines. Would love to go back!

The best way to describe our Grandchildren had a great time. One even cancelled his invitation to a friends Birthday on his own, without being made to, to stay with us. Great refreshing time!

Beautiful Victorian home. Well maintained. We enjoyed our stay so much. We spent each morning on the swing on the front porch. The house has so much to offer. Highly recommend staying there.

I always judge a house by it's front porch, and I was not disappointed. From all the wood details and fixtures to the beautiful backyard. My grandson would have slept on the porch given a choice. Thank you so much for your hospitality.

We loved our stay in this beautiful home. The accommodations were so comfortable. There was plenty of space for our group of 12. Darlene was very good about providing plenty of specific information to help make our stay even more comfortable. We were in town for a family wedding. Beds were comfy. This was so much better than a hotel!
