Friendly staff, helpful and polite. Spacious room, and beds. Very clean, located in a incredibly beautiful and peaceful village.
Being a small pub, clearly breakfast was not available but that's fine as breakfast is available two minutes away.
4.0
Lovely location, comfy bed and really nice food from the pub.
Was very busy so difficult to get a table for drinks in the pub area as these were reserved for food.
5.0
Lovely staff very friendly our was big enough and clean.
It stated breakfast when booking on booking.com this not the case.
4.0
Lovely people, place , rooms and food.
The booking we made by booking.com could not be found by owners so lucky to have got the rooms we needed - could have turned out very differently…
5.0
Great location and lovely pub. Friendly staff. Extremely busy glad we had booked for dinner. However food could have been better. They had run out off mash potatoes for the meal we ordered and the chips seemed to have come from a chip shop.
5.0
The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. We picked an extremely busy weekend to visit and arrived rather late in the day and were still accommodated by the kitchen staff and given great service by all others. Jasper's coffee shop just down the road also came highly recommended as a breakfast venue and it lived up to expectations.
Due to the obvious popularity of the Royal Oak, entering at 7pm on a Saturday on a weekend, when the world fell running championships were being held around the corner and the England rugby team were playing in the world cup, it was naturally rather crowded and the staff's attention was in high demand. I was still attended to promptly and this scenario only gave the staff of the Royal Oak more opportunity to display their outstanding customer service. The only real downside was that we couldn't stay longer.

It was warm, cosy, very clean and comfortable
Room was small but adequate

Lovely comfortable room
Breakfast has always been available and included in the price. This year there was no breakfast available. The information on Booking.com does not say the accommodation is room only.

Lovely property, friendly attentive staff, beautiful setting, right in the heart of where we wanted to walk, Newlands is stunning, we’re going back to climb one those hills, apologies for the pics but I didn’t take any of the rooms which were lovely but I would stay in a wooden shack for those views
£120 with NO breakfast although had a nice tea there

Lovely location.
Breakfast not available. Overcharged by £125 on arrival. Manager said he couldn’t access code for refund so after asking he gave us cash the next day.
A used disposable razor left in soap rack; small toiletries bottles not full; taps not clean and stain on bedsheet.
Room not cleaned/serviced at all next day - when asked we were told they hadn’t a cleaner. We asked for clean towels which were brought to us and put on our table in the pub.

Room was lovely - had to slightly fight through the queue at the bar to check in (but was a glorious sunny day so understandable). Whilst I appreciated the fact that some (free) provision for breakfast had been made in a bag & juice etc in a mini fridge …. Had I known ‘proper’ bfast and coffee wasn’t available I probably wouldn’t have booked the room as it didn’t seem quite right at the room rate.

The hotel had attractive period features, a warm and friendly bar area. The food was good, the room facilities were excellent, spotlessly clean with super comfy beds.
The access to the room was up several flights of stairs.

Great stay over Easter weekend in the royal oak. Very convenient to have parking and restaurant/pub on site! The staff were very welcoming and rooms are recently renovated. We look forward to come again to the Royal Oak! P. S. Be sure to look up the address beforehand as there are several royal oaks in the area 😉

Room decor was stylish
Quiet considering above a busy pub
Plenty of room
Bin men came at 6am on a bank holiday to empty the bins!!
The bed nearest the door was squeaky and kept waking us up.

We liked the location and the decor
We were given a double room even though we'd booked a twin. They offered us a free breakfast as compensation.
There was no wardrobe and only plugs on one side of the room. No plug beside mirror when drying hair.
Delay in ordering our evening meal, pre booked a meal but they reserved a table for a meal in a crowded corner even though there was a lovely restaurant on site.

The Royal Oak was lovely, in a great location and the facilities were very nice x
Although it wasn't a major issue, it would've been nice to be made aware of the live music being on, on the evening of our stay. Luckily we were able to still have an earlyish night as we had had a long day out enjoying the area and were pretty tired x
2.5
Nice room and crntral location.
We arrived, the girl said shed check us in, she thenserved customers( not busy, 4pm) then she disappeared. i had to find her, then she said she was serving coffee. Very rude and ignorant. we were stood waiting for ages before someone came to chrck us in.

Unfortunately breakfast was not an option when we stayed

Unfortunately, the chef was ill and no breakfast was available. Having previously had breakfast at the Royal Oak I know it is excellent.

The pub and staff were very nice, the food we ate in the evening was unbelievable, one of the best steak pies I’ve ever had!
There was a live singer in the pub on the Saturday night which was fine but we wasn’t made aware of this. We stayed in room 8 which felt like it was just above the singer. The singing went on for 3/4 hours and then once the singer left it sounded like somebody got their guitar out playing tunes whilst talking. Not what we expected or wanted after a full day in the hills.
Our room was right next to the exit door so the early morning walkers from 5:30 am were using the fire door which slammed shut every time it opened. Not what I expected after paying £140 for one night.
4.5
lively bar, relaxed dining with good food, comfortable modern bedroom
parking and need EV in future
