About this house rental

Located in downtown Bar Harbor, just two short blocks from the Village Green, our house is the perfect getaway for a couple, a family, or a group of friends! The in-town location means nothing is more than a 10-minute walk from the front door, including restaurants, shopping, the waterfront, and the Island Explorer (free) shuttle buses - with numerous stops within Acadia! This historic "cottage" (ca. 1900) was designed by noted regional architect Fred L. Savage. There's even an historic marker at the end of the driveway!

New last year: AIR CONDITIONING!!! Each of the three bedrooms upstairs now have wall-mounted units that provide cooling (and heating) controlled via remote.

The house itself is two stories, with the bedrooms upstairs and living areas and kitchen on the ground floor. We have a large front porch with a picnic table, several Adirondack chairs, and a grill is available. The kitchen is equipped with a full-size refrigerator, a four-burner gas stove, two-basin sink, and a dishwasher. Small appliances include a microwave, toaster, and coffee maker.

We have plates, utensils, cups and glasses, pots and pans, and anything else needed to make and eat a meal. The dining room showcases the original wood floors and paneling, and a bay window with a bench seat. The dining room table can accommodate four people with ease, and the picnic table is a comfortable six.

The master bedroom looks out onto one of the largest non-waterfront yards in town, and features a king size bed, two closets, two dressers, and two accent chairs. There is a door to an adjacent balcony "sun-room" with a huge window overlooking the side yard and trees. The balcony can also be accessed from the middle bedroom, which features a queen-sized bed, closet, and dresser. The third bedroom has two west-facing windows for great afternoon light, a full-sized bed, closet and dresser. The bathroom upstairs is also west-facing, with a tiled counter-top, and a tub/shower. The linen closet is stocked with extra pillows and blankets, additional sheets, and plenty of towels.

There is TV and an AppleTV you may log into, and house-wide WiFi internet. The password is located on the refrigerator. A travel crib is available for guests with infants. Smoke/carbon monoxide detectors are placed throughout the house, and there are two fire extinguishers (one upstairs, one in the kitchen). A washer and dryer are located in the basement, should you need to do a load.

We have plenty of FREE off-street parking; a hot commodity in Bar Harbor! The yard is big; a bit shy of a half-acre. The house is in a residential neighborhood, but is only one lot removed from Main Street. Atlantic Avenue is not a through-street, so traffic is minimal. People do tend to walk down the street because it's pretty, and because the historical marker at the end of the driveway is part of a Town-wide history project.

If you want to explore Acadia, the best option is the Island Explorer shuttle system - pandemic dependent. They are FREE (donations accepted), they have dedicated stops at all major points of interest, and the driver will stop and let you out along the way if you ask. The shuttles have bike racks, but those fill up quickly, so it's good to be early. The shuttle "depot" is at the Village Green, next to the fire station.

On the hall table guests will find a book of local recommendations on everything from where to get the best breakfast, to where to rent bicycles (The Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop), and includes recommended hikes, and points of interest.

CONSIDERATIONS
If you want to smoke, please do so outside and away from the house. The house is adjacent to a working bed and breakfast; please try to observe quiet time after 9pm. Individuals with mobility issues may find the stairs up to the porch a challenge, as there is no handrail.

A bicycle touring company, Vermont Bicycle Tours (VBT), stores extra bicycles in the garage adjacent to the house. The guides occasionally come down the driveway to load/unload bikes, and we have a schedule of those occurrences listed in the house, for your information.

We had a lovely time in Bar Harbor. The house is located in walking distance from everything in Bar Harbor and few minutes driving distance to Acadia. You can also take the shuttle bus into the park that is 3 minutes walking distance. Stephanie has been a wonderful host. She replied immediately to any questions and had great information about the house and the town compiled in a binder. Also a good selection of information material for the national park. The house is cozy and had plenty of room for 5 people, but it is a little dark since there are trees and other buildings around it. It is a bit eclectic and has lots of personality.

Our family had a wonderful stay here! It was the perfect place for us. The home is located in the heart of downtown Bar Harbor, walkable to everywhere in town. We really enjoyed the front porch and loved eating breakfast out there. The house was a fine old home, incredibly clean and well taken care of. There is even a trundle bed in one of the bedrooms so our kids were able to share the room without having to share the bed. The host was incredibly responsive and helpful. She is very organized and helped make the stay very comfortable for us.

We loved our weeklong stay in this gorgeous home. It has been lovingly kept and had everything we needed and more for a comfortable family vacation. The owner’s binder full of suggestions for things to do, as well as instructions, were clear and helpful. We loved relaxing on the porch, steps away from Main Street but also tucked away in our own quiet space. A perfect place to stay while enjoying Bar Harbor and Acadia.

Four kids and three adults had room to spare in this gracious old home in Bar Harbor, walking distance from EVERYTHING in town, including the ocean. Set back from the street and surrounded by an acre (?) of lawn, this charming home was well equipped with all that you need; generous supplies of linens, a washer and drier, toiletries, two coffee pots etc. The rooms all had such character; the three bedrooms were lovely and had special connecting spaces. The dining room was a masterpiece of architecture and wood panelling. We had a lovely long weekend exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor and truly enjoyed our stay in this home.

My family and I stayed at Stephanie’s property for a long weekend away and it was wonderful! The location of the property was right near town, but still a little off the main street so it was comfortable and quiet. The home provided us with plenty of space for all of us (5 grown adults) to stay and hang out. Stephanie was great the entire time and provided quick responses along with recommendations. I would absolutely stay here again as I know I’d have a fantastic trip!
